June 16, 2010. At least three killed in earthquakes in Indonesia

At least three people were killed when a series of quakes struck some 30 km (20 miles) off the coast of Indonesia's Papua province on June 16th, with the most powerful registering at 7.1 on the Richter scale, reports indicated. The quakes reportedly collapsed homes in some areas of this restive and most remote Indonesian province. Officials initially issued a tsunami warning but later lifted it. Two died on Yapen Island while another died in West Sulawesi province when a magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale earthquake reached the region.
